In order to achieve The Planet Mark™ for Business certification in the first and second year, we aim to measure, analyse and reduce your carbon footprint.
As we continue to measure your carbon footprint from year 3 onwards, in order to achieve recertification, you must demonstrate an improvement by reducing your absolute carbon footprint, or in a measured intensity related to business growth, such as carbon footprint per employee.
We encourage you to reduce your carbon footprint by 5% annually and set a required minimum of 2.5%, but you are welcome to set your own annual target to fit your sustainability strategy.
You can certify all, or some of your organisations sites or business areas as well as specific projects and events. We will work with you to ascertain suitable boundaries for your carbon footprint and help you to communicate what you have achieved through the certification process.
Measuring your carbon footprint
You are required to report your 'direct' Scope 1 and 2 emissions (measurement frameworks set out by WRI/WBCSD GHG Protocol), relating to electricity and fuel use in buildings and owned vehicles. We encourage you to report on 'indirect' Scope 3 emissions too, such as water, waste, business travel and other procured goods and services.
Our experts will work with you to establish the activities which are relevant and significant in your organisation, and guide you on accessing the necessary data and information. We also support businesses based in serviced offices where exact data is not available, and there is less control over building operations.
If you already have a carbon footprint, we provide a full verification service.
We will provide you with a unique CloudApps account. Our data management platform allows you to:
For each year of certification you will receive a comprehensive Certification Report detailing the progress you have made in reducing your carbon footprint. This includes changes from the base year, breakdown by activity and reporting locations and recommendations for improvement. Together with your Planet Mark Certificate, your report can be used as an engagement tool for key stakeholders to demonstrate your sustainability performance and achievements.
We aim to issue you with The Planet Mark™ Certification report and certificate within two weeks of full carbon footprint data disclosure.
