Planet Mark-certified Wiles Greenworld supports local woodland education programme
Wiles Greenworld, the Planet Mark-certified London sustainable office supplier, has announced it is to fund an education programme at Perivale Wood Local Nature Reserve as part of its sustainability programme.
Wiles Greenworld, which is owned by business services specialist Commercial Group, is donating £8,000 to Perivale Wood’s education programme over three years. The Perivale Wood education programme was chosen because it was local to Wiles Greenworld's offices and because of “the long-term benefits associated with hands-on environmental education,” the company said.
Perivale Wood is a 27 acre area of ancient oak woodland in west London. It is owned by The Selborne Society. To date more than 1,300 children from 15 schools have attended environmental and natural history sessions at the Nature Reserve.
Commenting on the donation, Wiles Greenworld’s sustainability consultant Jonathan Withey, said:
“Educating young people about climate change is one thing, but it is just as important to make them care about the natural world. Immersing children in wonderful places like Perivale Wood Local Nature Reserve takes their environmental awareness to a higher level.”
The Selborne Society trustee Nicola Goddard, who heads up the education programme, added: “We’ve just opened a new education centre, and the funding from Wiles Greenworld will enable us to invite many more schools to visit. Children can explore various habitats while learning about biodiversity and the importance of conservation and sustainability. We’re delighted to find a local business that shares and supports our values.”
