Eight Associates who have achieved The Planet Mark since 2012 have entered in the category of ‘Property Retrofit’ for their energy consultancy work on 119 Ebury Street, the UK’s first listing to achieve BREEAM Outstanding at design stage, which they hope will act as a pilot for a new model of sustainable retrofit.
Eight Associates acted as BREEAM and energy consultants.
They were appointed pre-planning to advise on the most appropriate strategies in terms of achieving the targeted 'Outstanding' rating and 80% reduction in operational carbon emissions both of which were achieved.
Eight Associates carried out a tenant profiling study to establish optimal design features with regards to minimising the in-use environmental impact and encouraging 'green' behaviour in building end-users.
Bi-weekly design team and design co-ordination meetings were attended during RIBA stages 3 and 4 to ensure the architectural, mechanical and electrical designs would meet aspirations.
Workshops were held between Eight Associates and the mechanical and electrical engineers to devise the optimal energy strategy, which deviated from the agreed planning scheme and therefore resulted in negotiations with Westminster City Council, who ultimately approved the revised scheme.
“119 Ebury Street deserves to win a 2degrees Champion Award because doing so will promote not only the stakeholders involved as leaders in sustainable development, but also the notion that it is possible to retrofit historic buildings to reduce their environmental impact whilst maintaining fully their architectural interest and historic value.”
