Planet Mark-certified Eight Associates embraces year-on-year sustainability improvement
Eight Associates, the London-based sustainability consultants now entering its fourth year of being certified to The Planet Mark, has made a number of changes to its internal operations in a bid to make year-on-year progress on its carbon footprint.
Eight Associates, a specialist in building standards, including BREEAM and LEED, maintained its Planet Mark certification in 2015 by achieving a 4.3 % carbon reduction per employee, equating to 0.7 tCO2e per person. The company is now looking to meet or exceed a 7% carbon reduction per employee in its next reporting year – in line with the challenge set down by the The Planet Mark through its Act On 7 campaign.
Eight Associates has actioned a number of measures in the last year to improve its carbon footprint in 2015, including:
• developing new policies to further enhance its sustainable operations. These include a new sustainable procurement policy and a green housekeeping policy, which set strict targets for any purchasing of cleaning materials and office equipment. The company is sourcing office equipment and stationery that contain recycled content, all printer paper to be FSC certified and chlorine-bleach free
- installing low energy lighting in its office with a 5300 kelvin daylighting colour rendering index for improved health and well being
• introducing an efficient internal storage and collection system to enable recycling of 100% of recyclable material
- employing a rigorous sustainable travel policy, which requires that all travel to meetings is by public transport and 100% of staff commute sustainably, either by train or walk.

The Planet Mark is helping customers reduce their carbon footprint on average by more than 7% per employee, per year. In February, it launched Act On 7, a campaign providing free tools and guidance to make it easier and straightforward for any business to reduce its carbon footprint year-on-year.
